Surf destinations south of Essaouira

  • Pointe d'Imessouane, about 85 km south of Essaouira is an exposed point break that usually has waves. Winter is the best time of year for surfing here. Ideal winds are from the northeast. Groundswells are more common than windswells and the ideal swell direction is from the northwest. Unlikely to be too crowded, even when the surf is up. Take care of the strong rips here. Last stop before Tarhazoute, Immesouane remained authentic until the modern fishing port was built.
  • Tamri-Plage about 95 km south of Essaouira is an exposed river break that has very consistent surf and works all around the year. Offshore winds blow from the east. Most of the surf here comes from groundswells and the optimum swell angle is from the northwest. The river breaks offer lefts and rights. Best around low tide. Unlikely to be too crowded, even when the surf is up.
